Greetings in the name of Free / Libre Open Source Software. I am Kodez, based in the capital city of South Africa, Pretoria. This post is unstructured and was not prepared in advance. I am just trying to put in the table some basic general introduction of my blog and moving forward I will give detailed organised posts. You are welcome to critic it if you find it not that useful.
All of us have the love of fancy ICT stuff or the nice things we use to play games, use to communicate with or do business. In almost all our encounter with ICT gadgets, we MUST pay and we find ourselves consistently asking either ourselves or friends how we can have an alternative, especially us based in south Africa where the unemployment rate an doing business is increasing every day. By the way, I take note that this post is written after a two days protest by the ANCYL in highlighting the scourge of the challenges young people face everyday. I am not going to debate this issue here.
Just a few days ago, Mark Shuttleworth released the latest GNU/Linux Ubuntu 11.10, by the way, I am still using Ubuntu 11.04 and Fedora 15. The latest Ubuntu bring an improvement in the latest Ubuntu family and bringing stability in Unity (the desktop environment) and an improvement in security patches and the introduction of Ubuntu One to the Windows OS. Most of us had been critical about the introduction of Unity and some left Ubuntu for other Linux OS. Some are new in Ubuntu, some are back in realising that Ubuntu is striving to make the desktop experience user friendly. Some are back after the open critic Linus Torvald gave to the Gnome 3. I must say openly hear that I love the idea the Gnome team had put in the table. Because we are all free to choose and critic I will do so later on what I think what we need in desktop to draw more people to Linux. No one size fits all is the motto here at home.
Those who wish to know how to use Linux in their business or just want to use it for programming, developing websites, learning how to use as a desktop or just want to learn what is all about this animal called Linux, You are eWelcomed again. I will be writing about all Linux Distro but I will mainly focus on Ubuntu and where there are major differences, I will surely try to point those and also where Ubuntu is lacking I will not shy away to point towards that direction. If there are any alternatives to overcome the Ubuntu or Linux in general short falls, I will make my research and discuss it here.
I will be happy if you share information with me and suggest what I need to cover in future. I am planning to release one post per week from the basics to advance topics. The use of eWelcome is a combination of electronic and welcome. therefore instead of saying I electronically welcome you, I just used something fancier 'eWelcome'.
Till next time my friends (bangani bami / di tsala tsa ka)
